GameChanger & Little League Specific FAQ's

GameChanger Video Streaming

Streaming the game live is easy and provides a way for friends and family that can’t be at the game to enjoy it.

It is completely optional. They can still follow play by play game stream if there isn’t video.

The easiest set up is to get a fence clip, or similar option, for your phone. Attach it to the fence behind home plate and hit “Go Live” within the GameChanger app. (The score keeper must start scoring game for this option to show, it can be done prior to actual play.)

Scoring a game requires a staff role in GameChanger but any member of the team can livestream the game (unless this setting is changed. Broadcast permissions -> Who can broadcast?).

When options are set to “anyone” for watching, the live stream is available to anyone who has the app and finds the team. But to replay the live stream you will need a paid GameChanger account. The paid account is kind of fun because you can go back and rewatch the game in its entirety or watch the individual play clips. So, any family that may want to watch will need to watch live, unless they too have a paid account. There are 3 levels for the subscription with a monthly and yearly price option. Visit their website for more information.  ( www.gc.com/pricing )

There are a couple things that you’ll probably want:
1.      External battery. Live streaming video will quickly drain your battery so it is good if you can have it plugged into an external battery the whole time.
2.      An unlimited data plan. Live Streaming will blow through data, and most fields do not have Wi-Fi.
3.      Fence attachment device. There are many fence clip options on the market. Each one is different based on your personal preferences and budget. Remember it must be adjustable so you can see through the fence. Some fences are wonky so you may want to have a back-up option available just in case the clip you have does not work for the fence conditions. I’ve used small bungees on field 3 where the fence is very bowed, and they work well if you want a fast, cheap and flexible option.
4.      Remember, a lot of the places we will play will be hot and there may not be adequate shade for your device. Some companies make cases and shades, I’ve found just a snap back hat attached to the fence works well. I’ve seen some parents hang an ice pack inside the hat to keep the air around the devices cool as well.
5.      Phone case. Foul balls will hit the backstop and could hit your phone/device or knock it loose, so you want to make sure it is protected if it falls from the fence.

Can you score the game and livestream at the same time?
Yes, but you’ll need two devices. I like to score on a tablet and livestream from my phone. At fields without Wi-Fi, you would start the hotspot on your phone and connect to it to the tablet before starting to stream from your phone. I personally use a tablet that is attached to my cell service plan for about $10/month, so I am able to use it without the hotspot or Wi-Fi since it has it’s own dedicated cell coverage.

How do I get the whole field in view?
Most newer phones have wide angle lenses that will work for this. You can either touch the zoom setting (to change between 1x and 0.5x) or pinch to zoom to get as zoomed in as possible while still having at minimum 1st and 3rd bases showing. I personally try to get the whole field in view, seeing the edge of both dugouts is usually pretty good. That way you can see the entire fence line for foul ball or home run viewing, this is only necessary for Majors and above.

Can fans of the other team watch the livestream?
There are two options when you start a stream. Anyone or Confirmed Members. If you choose anyone, then fans of the other team can view the stream. There is also a shareable link that you can send out in a text after the game starts. If the other team is live streaming, you can find their team from the schedule, follow the team as a fan and then view their livestream if they allow anyone to view it. I recommend all settings be set to “Anyone”, so it is easily viewable by both teams.

Dedicated cameras.

GameChanger supports other cameras, mainly GoPro and Mevo Smart. I’ve never used them; I’ve seen them used at other events outside of our Little League. They require wifi or a hotspot that is set up close to the camera, so your phone will not be available for use. It is a personal preference, but I recommend using your phone. It’s only less device you must carry or use.

*GameChanger is the essential, all-in-one scheduling and communication app for sports teams of any age! Coaches do not need a subscription to manager their teams.
If the rest of the team wishes to access stats they may purchase a subscription.
*GameChanger must have games marked as "Game Over", found in the menu at top right corner of the screen, to ensure scores and pitch counts are accurate.
*GameChanger scores can be used in place of a text message/call for game results, but you must initially contact BLL Information Officer to have your team added to Bishop Little League.
**If you have any questions regarding the set up of your GameChanger please contact BLL Information Officer Ruth McIntosh (760.920.8996) and she will help get your team imported and added to our Bishop Little League.
